Regent's Park recent sightings

Regent's Park

The numbers of waterfowl and gulls have reduced a lot in the past week. There has been no real evidence that spring is on the way.

Birds present:

Great crested Grebe: at the moment there appears to be 3 males and 1 female. Nest building and mating has been taking place but the bond doesn't appear to be a strong one.
Little Grebe: at least 4 pairs are around the lake.
Common Shelduck: the pair commute between the main lake and area 34, hopefully they will breed successfully again this year.
Common Teal: a pair are still present with the collection birds at the end of the lake in area 34.
Sparrowhawk: two pairs are around the park.
Kestrel: the pair in area 32 can be seen perched in trees, particularly the Willows.
Tawny Owl: one has been seen in area 40 twice recently.
Little Owl: one has been very vocal mid mornings on several occasions recently in area 31.
Great spotted and Green Woodpeckers: birds are very vocal and can be encountered around the park.
Redwing: small numbers are seen most mornings.
Cetti's Warbler: the male is still present but he is not that vocal.
Siskin: up to 8 birds are around the NE end of the lake.
Reed Bunting: a pair have been seen in area 32.

Inappropriate bird feeding does the Herons no favours.

This Argentine Ruddy Duck has confused several people. He managed to escape from the waterfowl collection and seems quite happy roaming the lake.
