Regent’s Park
Swift: 12 were over the park.
Garden Warbler: 2 were in area 38, The Old Golf & Tennis School.
Blackcap: 10 birds seen in areas 31 and 38
Lesser Whitethroat: one also in area 38.
Chiffchaff: 6 present.
Willow Warbler: 4 present.
Nuthatch: one still present in and around Queen Mary’s Gardens.
Richmond Park
Shoveler: 3 on Upper Pen Ponds.
Common Tern: one lone bird around all day.
Water Rail: the juvenile showed again this morning.
Kingfisher: male on the metal fence that protects the reed bed from the deer.
Swift: 16 over Pen Ponds at 7.10am.
Reed Warbler: 9 present.
Garden Warbler: one in the scrub just west of the Anglers Enclosure.
Blackcap: 6 in the same area as the above.
Chiffchaff: 7 birds present.
Black-headed Gulls could in the coming years could prevent Common Terns from breeding here if current breeding trends continue.
This Great Tit had just pillaged an Oak Processionary Moth nest. It then sat close by as if it were defending it. Unfortunately we removed the nest a short while later.
This Oak Processionary Moth nest is in a slightly unusual position.
