Richmond Park
Yesterday I removed the last of Oak Processionary Moth caterpillar nests that had been identified by the volunteers and myself in Bushy Park. Today I moved over to Richmond Park to assist the team there with nest removals. It gave me a chance to have a quick look at Pen Ponds before getting started. The water body itself was fairly quiet with only a couple of pairs of Great crested Grebes, single pairs Mute Swan and Common Tern. I was surprised that there were no juveniles present from any of these. There was a Tufted Duck with a brood of 5 ducklings but not much else on the water.
The only birds of interest were.
Water Rail: a juvenile was walking along the shore of the Anglers Enclosure.
Kingfisher: one was fishing from a bush overhanging the fence that separates the reed bed from the main body of water.
Reed Warbler: 10 birds were in the reed bed and nearby scrub.
Common Whitethroat: 4 birds were in the brambles in the Anglers Enclosure.
