I am back from an enjoyable long weekend in Norfolk with two good friends of mine. The weather was changeable but fortunately without rain or really leaden skies. However the wind was often brisk and quite chilly particularly during the first few hours of the day. Its direction moved from northerly around to a westerly, completely the wrong direction to bring many migrants from the continent. We did manage to see some interesting birds and I even managed to add a new bird to my Norfolk list. That species was Dartford Warbler, they have been breeding on the heathland just behind Salthouse and Kelling for several years. I have just never gotten around to looking for them. We only saw one bird that due to the wind was virtually hugging the ground, although it did perch up on a gorse bush before quickly dropping down into the heather.

This female in particular and the male in photo 3 showed well over Titchwell’s beach.
The Cranes above were the first of at least 11 birds seen or heard near Horsey Windmill in Norfolk.
An hour and a half after seeing the Crane’s in Norfolk we were watching 3 more.
5 of 23 Dotterel that have been present in this field for a couple of weeks, never coming much closer than this.
