Bushy Park
A quick drive around the park to see if work that I had asked our landscape team to carry out yielded;
Skylark: 4 males singing in the Skylark Zone, where dogs now have to be put on a lead.
Meadow Pipit: 4 birds were feeding on the ground in the above area.
Chiffchaff: 2 birds were singing alongside the Longford River.
Regent’s Park
Stonechat: a male was in the Wetland Pen, area 32 this afternoon.
Chiffchaff: one was in area 11.
Reed Bunting: one was commuting between the reed beds near the Boathouse.
The 4th Stonechat of the year was quite content, feeding undisturbed by people and dogs in the Wetland Pen.
He became slightly nervous when the local male Kestrel flew over.
It is unusual for a Heron to have only one chick. It could be that it was the first time she had laid, possibly she was to old or were the Crows able to sneak in and eat some.
Mum has her leg nibbled for slapping him in the face with her wing.
Another nest has been built in the Willow, while nearby the affects of the birds being fed (not recommended) can be seen as the birds fight over the hand-outs.
We have a pair of fully-flighted Barnacle Geese that are not part of the collection that come and go as they please.
