Bushy Park

Today I was working with the rest of the Ecology Team and a couple of other members of staff from the Royal Parks. We were removing some of the aquatic vegetation from the Scrape and channels that link the pools in the Brew House Meadow. The weather could not have been better; no rain, not to warm and even the sun put shone for us.

Mandarin Duck: one’s and two’s were commuting between the Woodland Gardens and the copse near the Water Gardens. A flock of 8 flew over on one occasion.

Common Buzzard: one put in an appearance at lunchtime.

Sparrowhawk: one hunted the area several times, causing much concern amongst the Jackdaws and Parakeets.

Kestrel: it was good to see the pair that breed on the western side were still present.

Stonechat: one was by the scrape when we arrived to start work there.

Cettis Warbler: one was again singing just north of the entrance from Dukes Head Passage into the park.

Some of the work party get stuck into removing some Bulrushes that were obstructing one of the Kingfisher banks that were built last winter and will be finished this winter.
