1st March

The first day of spring to some, not me that comes 20 days later, it is however my anniversary. My wife has had to put up with me for 32 years.

For that reason I could only fit in an hour mid afternoon. The light wasn’t in the ideal position and the birds were few.

Great crested Grebe: still only the one pair present.

Little Grebe: Two pairs, 1p on the main lake and another in area 34.

Cormorant: 24 Cormorants were present either on the posts, trees but mainly on the shore of area 8.

Common Shelduck: 3 birds on the main lake.

Shoveler: 28 on the main lake.

Yellow-legged Gull: 2nd winter over the lake at 3.40pm.

Redwing: 12 were by the ZSL’s public car park.
