21st & 22nd September

Regent’s Park

The overcast skies over the past couple of days haven’t been that productive and have probably meant that we have missed out on this years peak passage of Swallows and House Martins.

Here are the past two days sightings.

21st

Swallow: 80 passed through prior to 9.00am.

House Martin: a flock of 100+ were high above the lake at 8.00am. A difference between Martins and Swallows passing over is the former often stop and cluster together either feeding or just for social and saftey purposes.

Meadow Pipit: 4 flew west.

Blackcap: 5 were in area 31.

Chiffchaff: 8 were present.

Siskin: two singles flew over area 32.

22nd

Shoveler: 10 on the lake.

Swallow: at least 140 passed over today.

House Martin: 280 passed over in small flocks.

Whinchat: one was seen briefly in the small triangular enclosure in area 36. This is a very new enclosure erected in 2012 to protect some small saplings. It has also ready been seen to attract Meadow Pipits.

Chiffchaff: 11 dotted about the park.

Grey Wagtail: one over.

Pied Wagtail: one seen.
