Regent’s Park
I managed to spend several hours in the park early this morning and witnessed the start of the diaurnal autumn passage.
Yesterday a handful of pipits were seen as well as a Yellow Wagtail, today was much better.
Little Grebe: a couple showed very well in area 9.
Common Sandpiper: this is possibly one of the longest staying birds ever recorded in the park and may have been present for 17 days. It flew from area 9 to area 8 at 9.25am.
Sparrowhawk: at least 4 birds seen in the skies around the park.
Peregrine Falcon: one flew south west.
Hobby: one was over Queen Mary’s Gardens mid morning.
Yellow-legged Gull: a 1st winter was on the lake.
Skylark: the first bird of the autumn was on the ground in area 37 at 7.20am.
Swallow: 14 flew south.
Sand Martin: 5 were over the lake with H. Martins.
House Martin: 30 birds were over the lake.
Meadow Pipit: 160+ in small groups headed in a southerly direction.
Yellow Wagtail: 9 birds mainly singularly flew SW prior to 11.00am.
Grey Wagtail: 2 singles flew SW.
Whinchat: a female was on area 37 first thing this morning.
Lesser Whitethroat: one was reported from area 39.
Common Whitethroat: one still present in the chat bush area 34 ( I am sorry, I have recently been calling this area 36).
Blackcap: at least at around the north-eastern end of the lake.
Chiffchaff: 7 at the NE end of the lake.
Siskin: 3 birds were in area 32 briefly at 9.15am.
